Built in 1912 during the Japanese time, Taiwan Army Club is the second largest historical building of official residence preserved in Taipei.  The largest preserved residential building is Taipei Guest House (台北賓館) right next to Presidential Palace.  This building became army general’s residence when Taiwan entered into R.O.C. era after WWII, by then the resident was Gen. Sun, Li-Jen. In 1955, Gen. Sun was house arrested to another city and the residence became Taiwan Army Club.  In 1994, Taipei City Government proclaimed the building a city monument and began the restoration process.  In 2015, the building was open to the public.  Taiwan Army Club is a typical colonial design like many well-designed houses built during the Japanese time that combined both Japanese and Western styles, with the Japanese space for residential living, and the Western space for greeting guests and holding banquets.
